Dock Marshals: Your job is to hold the boats and help the teams climb into them. You bail water when necessary. We need 2-3 people working each boat. This is a great job for students who need to earn community service hours. To be a Dock Marshall you must be able bodied, comfortable in the water and able to swim. You must be prepared to deal with the weather – rain or shine. Some Dock Marshal volunteers coordinate handing out life jackets and paddles to the teams.
Assistant to the Announcer: You are stationed at the Finish Line Tent with the race officials. You write the results called in over the radio on the scoreboard. Need to be calm and cool under pressure with good handwriting and good hearing. You give the race announcers the results in person or via radio.
Volunteer Check-in: Check in and distribute t-shirts to all volunteers for each shift. Direct volunteers to their work area and explain their tasks. Keep track of all paperwork and verify that all release forms are completely filled out.
Race Day Registration: For this job you need to be an “early bird” ready to go at 7:00 AM to check in teams. You must be organized and have good administrative skills. You match rosters with the legal release forms. There is an early registration available to teams the night prior to race day if you aren’t an early bird.
Pledge Table:
Fundraising Captains have until noon on race day to turn in pledge money in order to be eligible for prizes. You need to be able to responsibly handle money and be able to enter data into an Excel worksheet. This is an “early bird” job requiring a start time of 7:00 AM. You are responsible for delivering the pledge money and final worksheet to the Event Director.
Information Booth/Progams:
You’ll hand out programs and answer questions regarding the event, direct participants to rest rooms, launch area, food/beverage/merchandise vendors, First Aid, location of Athlete’s Village, serve as Lost & Found, etc.
Beverage and Ticket Sales/ ID Checkpoint: You must have good math and money handling skills, including making change. Ticket sellers and “bar tenders” are needed in this area and in the VIP tent. You must be at least 21 for this position.
Sanitary Engineers, Set up and Break Down Crew: You’ll help us set up on May 7th. Need general clean-up crew for areas during the event on May 8th - collecting banners and signs, breaking down tables and tents at the completion of the event.
Referee Chase Boat: Captain and vessel needed on race day.
Other Support Boats: Captains and vessels needed for On Water Safety Crew on race day; work boat for set up, maintenance and break down of race course; starting line deck boat.
